Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cranberry juice (unsweetened)
  • 6 oz. sweetened dried cranberries
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks, broken in half
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 gala apples, peeled and grated
  • 2 t cornstarch

Directions:

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the cranberry juice, cranberries, cinnamon stick, and sugar.
  2. Bring to a boil and let cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the apples and cook, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries have softened and the apples are tender, about 5 minutes
  4. Remove 8 oz. of the liquid, transfer to a small bowl, and whisk in cornstarch.
  5. Slowly add the cornstarch juice mixture to the cranberry mixture, stirring constantly.
  6. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and let cool.
  8. Pour into a serving bowl and refrigerate until thick.
  9. Remove cinnamon sticks before serving.

This recipe is definitely adapted from a magazine or other website several years ago with my Grandpa while making Thanksgiving dinner, but I have no idea who. I HATE cranberry sauce, but this stuff is amazing and I hate calling it cranberry sauce because it is so much more than that and it is amazing on so many things!
