Ingredients:

  • 1 head of garlic
  • 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • About 2 New York strip steaks
  • ¾ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 T lemon juice
  • 1-2 T horseradish, or to taste
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • Olive oil and butter for cooking
  • Seasonings: salt, pepper, garlic powder, red pepper flakes

Directions:

  1. Roast the head of garlic at 375° for about 40 minutes to an hour, or until fork tender and golden brown. Set aside to let it cool down.
  2. Saute the onions and peppers in a pan, in olive oil, with the seasonings.
  3. When your onions and peppers are nearly done, sear your steaks in butter (seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic powder) until medium rare. Let rest for at least 5 minutes.
  4. While the steak is resting, squeeze the roasted garlic into a bowl and mix it with a fork. Add the mayonnaise, lemon juice, horseradish, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes and stir to make the aioli.
  5. Slice the steaks as thin as you can.
  6. Assemble the sandwiches with the aioli, onions, peppers, steak, and provolone.
  7. Broil on low until the cheese is melted and the buns are slightly toasted.
