Ingredients:
- 1 head of garlic
- 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- About 2 New York strip steaks
- ¾ cup mayonnaise
- 2 T lemon juice
- 1-2 T horseradish, or to taste
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 4 hoagie rolls
- Olive oil and butter for cooking
- Seasonings: salt, pepper, garlic powder, red pepper flakes
Directions:
- Roast the head of garlic at 375° for about 40 minutes to an hour, or until fork tender and golden brown. Set aside to let it cool down.
- Saute the onions and peppers in a pan, in olive oil, with the seasonings.
- When your onions and peppers are nearly done, sear your steaks in butter (seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic powder) until medium rare. Let rest for at least 5 minutes.
- While the steak is resting, squeeze the roasted garlic into a bowl and mix it with a fork. Add the mayonnaise, lemon juice, horseradish, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes and stir to make the aioli.
- Slice the steaks as thin as you can.
- Assemble the sandwiches with the aioli, onions, peppers, steak, and provolone.
- Broil on low until the cheese is melted and the buns are slightly toasted.
